Dr. Minchu Zhang

Professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Minchu Zhang has served the ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 2003 to 2025; and

WHEREAS Dr. Zhang has received excellent reviews from students, particularly for his course on sustainable agriculture, which has consistently been among the highest enrolled courses in the natural resources and environment program; and he supervised 23 graduate students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Zhang is a world-renowned expert in nutrient management, soil fertility and crop production in sub-Arctic regions; and his research has advanced small-grain production and farm soil health in Alaska; and he was part of the team that developed the Sunshine barley variety used by the Alaska Flour Co.; and he has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles; and

WHEREAS Dr. Zhang served in the UAF Faculty Senate; and he has been a reviewer for several academic journals; and he served on the Alaska Food Security and Independence Task Force; and he served for many years as vice chair of the Circumpolar Agriculture Association’s annual conference;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Minchu Zhang for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Zhang and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Minchu Zhang as professor of natural resources and environmental studies, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the ´ºË®ÌÃÊÓƵ as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Minchu Zhang, and conveyed to Dr. Zhang on this third day of May, 2025.
